I got banned from r/soccer for saying that it's the players choice whether they want to wear an armband in support of LGBTQ

I was talking on a post where a Muslim football player refused to wear the armband and people in the comments section where insulting him and calling him vile names but I started saying that he shouldn't go against his religion just for a football match. People started telling me that him and I chose the wrong religion. I tried to appeal my ban because I was there primarily to discuss football and not to be banned for getting into a debate with some random dude sitting behind his monitor half way across the globe. When I sent them a mod-mail asking if I was still a "religious bigot" I was just in shock. Since when did hating religion become normalized like I try to encourage people to join Islam but I don't insult them if they don't want to.
